Death of CAA President Theo Tatton

It is with regret that I advise that Theo Tatton, long time president of CAA, activist supporter of cryonics in Australia, and friend, died on the 28 February 2008.

Theo had been sick for some time but his death still came as a surprise to many, myself included. Perhaps we should have not been so surprised, as it was his character to be stoic, and to not burden others with his problems, rather, he continued to concentrate and speak of plans for the future and for living. It is not a fear of death that turns many to cryonics, but rather a love of life.

Targets for a possible Prize?

As a relative newby to discussing the damage created by the cryopreservation process, but someone who has some knowledge of medicine, I would like to suggest that a Prize setup to aim people at overcoming some problems that still exist with cryopreserving individual outstandingly difficult organs to cryopreserve (AND return to function) OR more ambitious prizes still, be setup.

It seems to me that the advantages to the world at large would be

The Magnitude of the Problem (Discussion)

The article "The Magnitude of the Problem" was written by me in 2004 and has had minor revisions since. It was written as a lay description of some of the problems cryonicists face, it was not meant to be antagonistic to the idea of cryonics, simply a general overview of why it is hard. The article is deliberately slanted towards 'resurrection' cryonics wherin bodies are frozen in the hope that cellular repair can be effected, and the person re-animated.

CAA Interactions

The CAA is currently undergoing a re-evaluation of it's directions, functions and procedures. To this end there are a number of methods available for members and friends of CAA to communicate and collaborate. Some of the Web-based facilities are only available to CAA members and associate members, other facilities are more relaxed from a membership point of view.

The Australian Cryonics FAQ

Introduction

There are several well written and informative Cryonics FAQ's on the web, the most comprehensive probably being Ben Best's Cryonics FAQ. Similarly for overviews of cryonics, a good place to start is Wikipedia which has also had significant input from Ben Best.
